LabMAF first meeting – Building the picture of the small-scale fishers’ markets in the Mediterranean

Building the picture of the small-scale fishers’ markets in the Mediterranean The Start-Up Action LabMAF successfully held its first meeting in Ljubljana

The Start-up Action LabMAF (Developing a labelling scheme for Mediterranean small-scale and artisanal fish products) held its first face-to-face meeting in Ljubljana on 15-16 May, 2019.

The purpose of the meeting was to map and understand the various initiatives related to the promotion of the small-scale fishers’ products or shortening their supply chains.

Fifteen experts from ten different countries were able to portray very different efforts taking place across the Mediterranean (Italy, Spain, Tunisia, France, Croatia, Portugal, Malta, Lebanon, Slovenia; contributions were received also from Greece).

The meeting’s formal sessions and informal exchanges allowed the participants to appreciate the commonalities and differences between various efforts. As such, the meeting laid the ground for the next phase of the project, including the next meeting to take place in autumn 2019.

An informal extension of the meeting took place at the Slovenian coast, bringing the meeting in close proximity with the theme of the project. The only regrettable thing is that the consortium failed to produce a family photo of the group!
